FAQ’s

What do I do to prepare for laser tattoo removal?

Avoid tanning beds and direct sun exposure for at least two weeks prior to a laser treatment. Arrive to your appointment with clean, dry skin (avoid make up and lotion the day of the treatment). We recommend avoiding the use of aspirin before laser tattoo removal, instead choosing non-aspirin products, like Tylenol or ibuprofen.

Does laser tattoo removal hurt?

Newer tattoo removal lasers are much faster and less traumatic to the skin compared to previous technologies, making the treatment much more tolerable. The impact of the energy from the laser is commonly described as a hot, snapping rubber band. We use a Zimmer Cryocooler to cool the skin before and during the laser treatment. This makes the process as comfortable as possible.

What will my tattoo look and feel like after the treatment?

Immediately following the first laser treatment, your tattoo will appear white or frosted. This is due to steam in the skin and will resolve quickly. Future treatments may not result in a frosted appearance. Typically, the skin will be slightly red with swelling in the area of the tattoo. We do not expect bleeding, blistering, or scabbing. We recommend applying aloe vera and cold packs throughout the day following the treatment. Avoid tight clothing and excessive sweating to allow the skin to cool as it may feel warm for a few hours.

How many sessions will I need?

How many treatments you will need depends on the age and saturation of ink, style and location of the tattoo, and your overall health. The average number of treatments needed for complete removal is between 6-12 treatments. The easiest tattoos to remove have black or red ink. In contrast, the hardest are newer, multi-colored tattoos, especially containing floral and pastel colors.

Can I lighten my tattoo in order to cover it with another tattoo?

Yes. Tattoo artists refer us many patients who request lightening their tattoos before cover up work is performed. This often allows for greater choice in new tattoo design and improves the final result.

How much will removing my tattoo cost?

Tattoo removal is affordable. However, without an assessment of your tattoo and the number of treatments required, we cannot accurately provide a true picture of your investment. We do not require the purchase of a large package upfront. We will provide a price-per-treatment which includes all fees and taxes.
